So when I went to buy new clay last night, and discovering they were out of my favorite Little Loafers, I got a bag of #240 to try.
It wasn't bad at all. I'm still out of practice, but it seemed a bit easier and well behaved than the old 563. I've mainly been trying to have fun and experiment, but I'll have to find out how well the new clay burnishes and polishes after a saggar fire.

Hi! I found your blog doing a search on Standard 240! I'll be very curious to hear more about your experiences with this clay body. Standard Ceramic is the only company with a distributor in Puerto Rico (where we live) and I'm looking for a white clay body (cone 6 electric, mostly throwing). I've been hearing good things about 240 but very interested to hear more.

I don't know if your supplier carries the full line, but you can look on Standard's site for more possibilities.

As far as the 240, I liked throwing with it, it was very smooth, no grog. It seemed to leave more of a white film/haze when cleaning up (more talc?). Haven't fired any yet, and I don't know when I'll get another chance to saggar fire some, hopefully this spring!
